Silent Hill Origins

At first I was curious at how well it would work on the PSP as many times the controls have to be dumbed down and analog nub is pretty shitty. However I was surprised.

The graphics were great, looked much better then the original (although not as good as the PS2 ones) but good nonetheless. It was still dark and very atmospheric which kept it disturbing even though it's a hand held game.

The storyline takes place before the original Silent Hill, you play as Travis a truck driver who was passing by Silent Hill but saw someone on the road. When he gets out he sees a girl and then notices a house on fire. He hears a scream and rushes into the house and finds a girl with burns all over her body who he rescues, passes out, and awakens in the hospital.

Controls are good :thumbsup although I still would have preferred a real analog stick. Press L to snap the camera behind you which is very useful to avoid not knowing what you're walking into.

The radio and light which were absent in Silent Hill 4 return and are just as useful as always, with static playing on the radio when monsters are near.

One new gameplay element that I was wondering about at first but works is breakable weapons. In the others you find a pipe, knifes, etc but they don't break. In Origins after so much damage they will break, but you can now use wrenches, wood, brooms, etc.

Overall: Havn't finished it yet but it's supposed to be on the short side (5 hours, that's not rushing) and the controls *could* be better on a console. Nonetheless it's a great game.

8/10
