Nyarlathotep (2001)

Featured on "The H.P. Lovecraft Collection Vol. 1: Cool Air"

Probably the best Lovecraft film adaptation to date, because it IS the story, just acted out. The entire story is read over the scene as they are acted out, quite good.

Plot:
An artifact is discovered in Egypt and Nyarlathotep comes force into the lands of civilization. Nyarlathotep performs "miracles" and feats which stun and horrify all who see them.

Special Effects:
None, which is exactly how it should be. It was meant to look like a very old film, with black and white, typewriters, old cars, etc. Very well done and would have been ruined with special effects.

Acting:
Great actors even though there is no dialogue except from the narrator. Nyarlathotep is very convincing, and you can see the terror on the faces of the onlookers, and the complete trance like that at the end.

Overall:
A great movie and at only 10 minutes it's hard not to like it, it doesn't drag on at all. Of course if you are familiar with the story you will know exactly how it goes, but now you can put faces and places onto the words. People who are not familiar with Lovecraft might not like it. The shortness, odd story and words might make you confused and angry.

9/10
